There are abundant books in stores covering topics on Motherhood, Parenting, etc. There are huge data sources online too on such topics and all the information is easily available nowadays. From the time of pregnancy to current motherhood state, I have been reading different array of books and these have kept me going through. I am now aware of so many things which I would have not known otherwise. So in this blog, I would be sharing some of these books which have helped me immensely:

Mother & Babycare

The author Elizabeth Fenwick is a mother and a medical journalist who has written numerous articles on child health. She has written an ideal book for the first time mothers as it includes the vital information on all the trimesters of your pregnancy. In simple words, the book gives step by step information on how to take care of yourself and your child during the initial stages. The book also showcases the development of the fetus as per the average and mothers can compare this data with their own. They have also highlighted the weight gain of mothers and baby in each trimester and what changes a mother has to go in each trimester. With lot of pictures, mothers can actually relate to what they will be dealing with. It is a very informative book and can be purchased online at Amazon and Flipkart.

Your Child is Your Parent

This book by Manoj Lekhi was referred to me by one of my good friend, who is a mother herself, and found this book extremely useful for new mothers or who are about to become mothers. After reading the book, I can surely say it is a bible for all parents. From planning a child to the time the kid turns 6 years, this book has it all. The book has been divided into various chapters and highlights common challenges faced by parents such as anger management and self esteem. The book advises that a Happy Parent leads to a Happy Child. In other words, a child act as a mirror for the parent to monitor their own life pattern and behaviour as the child learns majority from their parents. Thus, a parent who is calm, focused and positive can imbibe these qualities in the child during his/her upbringing.

How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk

This book is an acclaimed international bestseller and a very interesting one to read as the topic covered is generally missed by majority of parents. In this book, parenting experts Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish provide step by step techniques and suggestions to solve common problems and help parents improve and enrich their relationship with their children. I particularly liked reading about how to cope with the child's negative feelings like anger and frustration and how to inculcate self-discipline without being hurtful. It also throws light on proper ways of talking to children in different situations. After reading the book, I surely realized how proper usage of words and ways of speaking makes the situation more positive and fruitful.
